I was in the best shape of my life (high school included), then my son was conceived. At 30, in my first successful pregnancy, I worked out hard until about 8 months when all I could do was walk. I had an emergency cesarean. The weight came off quickly and by 6 months I was back to my pre baby size and starting to feel more myself. I gained a few tiger stripes on my breast and sides, but pregnancy was not my first experience with battle wounds. My ligaments/joints (my son is now 14 months) have still not returned to normal. I am working, still nursing, am proud that I made it through, and looking forward to doing it again.
Acknowledgement from those who know me and being surrounded by other moms dealing with the same reality has helped me deal and normalize the postbabybody condition and practice patience as well as try not compare myself to anyone else. People need to know that a healthy child, healthy mom, healthy family is most important and everything else is secondary. Most women will not be the woman they were pre baby. I’m proud, and the new and improved version of myself is looking forwards with acceptance and continued motivation.
